Frequently asked questions
Twenty-four answers covering the whole journey. If yours is not here, ask us directly.
Applications
How do I apply?
Start with an enquiry through the contact page describing the amount, the purpose and the timing. If the product fits, we open a file and send one document list with a secure route for sending them.
Is an enquiry a commitment?
No. An enquiry is a conversation. Nothing is binding until you sign an agreement, and any statutory withdrawal period that applies is stated in that agreement.
Can I apply for more than one product?
You can discuss several requirements, but each is assessed separately. Applying for multiple credit facilities in a short period can itself affect an assessment.
Can I cancel an application?
Yes, at any point before signature. After signature, your rights depend on the agreement and on the withdrawal rules in your jurisdiction, both of which are set out in your documentation.
Eligibility
Who can apply?
Broadly: applicants of legal age, resident in a jurisdiction where the product is available, with verifiable income or business revenue, a bank account in their own name, and repayments that are affordable alongside existing commitments.
Does a poor credit history exclude me?
Not automatically, though it affects assessment and the terms that can be offered. Context matters, and a difficulty that has been resolved is read differently from one that is ongoing.
Is availability the same in every country?
No. Products depend on local law and regulatory requirements. Confirm availability before starting an application.
Does meeting the criteria mean I will be approved?
No. Criteria describe who may apply. Every application is individually assessed and may be declined.
Documents and processing
What documents will I need?
Typically identity, proof of address, income evidence and bank statements. Business and property cases require more. You receive one consolidated list rather than a series of requests.
How should I send documents?
Only through the secure route your contact provides. Never send identity documents or statements by ordinary email.
How long does a decision take?
It varies by product and depends heavily on how quickly complete documents arrive. You are given an expected timescale when your file is opened.
Will you ask for passwords or card details?
Never. Fortis Crest will not ask for banking passwords, full card numbers or PINs. Treat any such request as fraudulent and report it to us.
Repayments and interest
What will borrowing cost me?
That is set after assessment and depends on the product, amount, term and your circumstances. No headline rate is published on this site. You receive the total cost of credit in writing before signature.
Fixed or variable rate?
Depends on the product offered. A fixed rate keeps the instalment stable for the term; a variable rate can rise or fall. Which applies is stated in your pre-contractual information.
Can I repay early?
Generally yes. Depending on the agreement and applicable law, the lender may be entitled to compensation for part of the cost of credit. The conditions appear in your agreement.
What if I cannot make a payment?
Contact us before the payment falls due. Missed payments can lead to charges, are usually reported to credit reference agencies, and may put any security at risk. Raised early, difficulties can usually be discussed.
Privacy and security
What do you do with my data?
We use it to assess and administer your enquiry or agreement and to meet legal obligations. We do not sell personal data. Full detail is in the privacy policy.
How long is my data kept?
For the period required by the file and by applicable law, after which it is deleted or anonymised. Retention periods are published in the privacy policy.
What rights do I have over my data?
Depending on your jurisdiction, these typically include access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection and portability, and the right to complain to a supervisory authority.
How do I know an email is really from you?
We never ask for credentials or payments by email. If anything is unclear, do not use the contact details in the message: reach us through the details published on this site.
Investment, complaints and responsible borrowing
Do you offer investment products?
No product is offered through this website. The investment section is informational only, and no return, forecast or performance history is presented.
How do I make a complaint?
Write to us with what happened, when, and what outcome you are seeking. The complaints page sets out the stages, the acknowledgement period and the escalation route.
What does responsible borrowing mean here?
Borrowing an amount that remains affordable if circumstances worsen, for a term matched to the purpose, having understood the total cost rather than only the instalment.
Where can I get free debt advice?
Most countries have free, independent debt advice services, often run by non-profit organisations or public bodies. Details for your jurisdiction: [LOCAL DEBT ADVICE SERVICE]. We can point you to the service covering your country on request.
